Obligatory & Ethics
It is a requirement in the United Kingdom to state that all Tarot readings are for entertainment purposes only and should not be mistaken for the advice of medical, legal, psychological, psychiatric or financial professionals.
As a Tarot Reader, it is my aim to provide each Querent with the guidance necessary to assist said person on their journey toward wholeness, wellbeing, and contentment. That said, no guidance given during a reading shall be construed as advice in any of the aforementioned fields.
Articles of Ethics for Tarot Readers:
1. Beneficence:
I will serve the best interests of my clients, conducting my professional activities according to beneficence, without causing or intending to cause harm.
2. Confidentiality:
I will not reveal what a client tells me without his/her written approval. I will hold all written and verbal communication with a client in confidence, except in the event of a safeguarding issue, when I will tell the client that I feel compelled by the seriousness of the situation to pass it on to the relevant authorities.
3.Honesty:
I will interpret a reading to the best of my ability and will honestly admit when I cannot interpret something.
I will always tell the truth, but not impose information on a client that they have clearly indicated that they do not wish to know or explore further in depth.
4. Compassion and Respect:
I will always provide readings with compassion and in a nonjudgmental manner.I will treat all my clients with equal respect, regardless of their origin, race, religion, gender, age, or sexual preference.
5. Expertise:
I read the Tarot Cards for guidance in all areas of life. However, If the client needs a physician, psychologist, lawyer, financial advisor, accountant, or any other professional service for which I am not qualified, I will encourage him or her to seek such service from someone who is qualified in that area.
6. Responsibility:
My goal as a Tarot reader is to allow my clients to take responsibility for their own decisions and actions, which guide their lives, and to act according to their own conscience for the greater good of all concerned.
7. Empowerment:
I am not a fortune-teller. I do not believe that Tarot readings reflect any sort of inevitable future. I will let my clients know that they have free will, that the future is never etched in stone and thus they have the power to change their future. I will strive to help my clients leave a reading feeling empowered to make practical, life-affirming decisions.
8. Healing:
I will allow myself to be a conduit through which Divine Spirit heals my clients’ spirit, mind, body, and environment based upon insights gained from a reading.
9. Uplifting:
I will strive to make each reading a blessing for everyone involved.I will be encouraging and try to leave my clients with a sense of renewed strength and hope. Thus, I will try to make each reading, no matter how bad it might initially appear, end on a positive, encouraging note.
10. Independence:
I will not let my clients become overly dependent upon my services, nor pressure them for return visits.
11. Payment:
All fees will be clearly stated and agreed upon before beginning the reading. If, at the time of the reading, a client is not satisfied with the level of my knowledge, my ability to communicate the pertinent information of the cards, or otherwise dissatisfied with the way the session is conducted (not related to the actual content of the reading, which may or may not be objectively judged by the client), I will refund my fee or make other arrangements to the client’s satisfaction.
I reserve the right to refuse to read for any client, but I will return any payment made for such a reading.
12. Professional conduct:
I conduct myself in a professional manner. I am on time for appointments, fully present, honouring my client’s process, listening carefully and compassionately.
I will not read the cards when any parties may be under the influence of mind-altering substances.
I keep my promises and commitments and provide a safe, comfortable, welcoming environment for my readings.
I will only do third party readings if the question relates directly to the clients reading, and then only in areas where they interact.
I will at all times maintain an ethical and professional relationship with my clients.
I will not abuse a client’s trust and vulnerability for my own personal benefit.
I am committed to the ongoing study and practice of my craft, so that my clients can be confident they are receiving the highest levels of care and expertise.
I will not refer clients to another professional in anticipation of receiving any commission.
I will treat my professional colleagues with respect.
